Security Lighting
If you want to protect your property against intruders then you will need to scare them away with either a loud noise or bright lights. An alarm system will sound a loud noise to hopefully scare these intruders away but if that doesn’t work then security lighting will definitely do the trick. If there’s one thing that most intruders hate it’s to be seen while they are up to no good.
Installing security lighting in your property means that you are protecting your home or business against the possibility of burglary and vandalism. If you are installing security lighting in your business then you could consider using it in conjunction with CCTV as this will ensure that you have clearer pictures. Not only does security lighting deter intruders, but it will also make those living in your home or working in your business feel safer at night.
There are many different types of security lighting that you can choose for the home or business. If you are planning to leave your security lights on all night long, then you need to make sure that you are using high energy efficiency lighting as this will reduce the costs. Here at the Lighting Centre we have a range of options for those who want to give their home or business extra protection with security lighting.
PIR lighting can be used to detect movement so it works by lighting up when it detects any movement such as humans or animals. These lights will stay on for a period of time which is usually from about twenty seconds up to ten minutes and they will then automatically switch off. However once movement is detected again they will switch back on. You can choose to have many of these lights switched on for hours at a time if you use the override switch.
We also have other lights for security use such as floodlights which can be left on for the whole night if you don’t have a PIR detector. If you need help with any of our security lighting options then do not hesitate to pick up the phone today.
A disadvantage of low pressure sodium lamps is that the colour of the lamp is pure yellow, making the colour of the lit area have no colour differential. As a result, high pressure sodium vapour lamps (closer to a golden white colour) are used also. These lights however have higher running costs and increase light pollution. High pressure sodium lights can take longer to re-strike after a power interruption or cut.
A variety of security lighting can be activated by sensors such as PIRs (passive infrared sensors) and will only turn on when movement is detected. Lights with PIR sensors will traditionally use an incandescent bulb as they need to activate instantly. Energy saving is not too much of an issue as the lamp is not always on.
PIR sensor activation can increase both the deterrent effect (since the intruder knows that he has been detected) and the detection effect (since a person will be attracted to the sudden increase in light). Some PIR units can be set up to sound a chime as well as turn on the light. Most modern units have a photocell so that they only turn on when it is dark.
At Lighting Centre, our most popular range is the Titan RS range. This is currently under special offer and is wire free. The Titan range is simple to set up and often includes a chimer so that the owner of the property can tell when the light has been switched on.
As the dark nights are approaching we would like to offer our customers this special offer on our best selling Remote Sensing Security Products which are completely wire free and has a 70m range from transmitter to receiver and will allow up to 12 transmitters to each receiver. In this special kit you will receive an Audio Alert PIR Floodlight and also a Chime Alarm unit and a plug- in receiver at one unbeatable price.
Titan RS FAQ
Q: How many Titan RS transmitter codes can a Titan RS receiver hold?
A: They can hold up to twelve transmitter codes.
Q: How many Titan RS receivers can a Titan RS transmitter control?
A: There is no system limit on the number of receivers that can be controlled by a transmitter. Any receivers within range of the transmitter, coded to accept the specific transmitter signal, will be activated.
Q: Titan RS transmitters have a 70m range in open space, how is this range affected by enclosed spaces?
A: The transmitter range will be reduced by solid objects particularly solid metal or brick walls. The range reduction will vary according to the thickness of the obstruction. If obstructions exist always set up and test transmitters and receivers before final installation.
Q: What is the battery life on battery operated Titan RS products?
A: Battery life will depend entirely on the number of triggers received. Under normal usage at 20°C you can expect a life span of at least a thousand triggers from a new set of appropriate Alkaline / Lithium batteries. System critical products such as the TRS22TX Wireless PIR Detector, TRS24TX Remote Switch and TRS25TX Magnetic Contact Transmitter have LED indicators that will flash when the batteries are low.
Q: My neighbour already has a Titan RS security system installed is interference a problem?
A: No. Titan RS Transmitters have millions of individual code combinations. Titan RS Receivers will only respond to specific transmitter codes stored in memory.
Q: Can I mount Titan RS products onto a metal surface?
A: Mounting Titan RS products onto a metal surface will reduce signal strength. It may be necessary to use non conductive spacers between the Titan RS product and the metal surface to achieve the best results.
Q: Are Titan RS 300w Floodlights compatible with the new building regulations?
A: Yes Titan RS 300w Floodlights are compatible with the new Building Regulations. Simply fit a 150w TH lamp as per Building Regulations: L1A Clause 45.
Q: Can I fit a lamp of lower rating to the Titan RS 300W Floodlights. E.g. Can I fit a 150w lamp?
A: Yes you can. Obviously the lamp must be the same physical size in this case 118mm long.
Q: Where can I find instruction manuals for the Titan RS range?
A: Under the Technical section of this web site.
Q: Got a technical question not answered here?
A: Yes, then call the Technical helpline on 01623 758861.
